Your contact form may look ready while its notifications go unnoticed. Take a few minutes to follow a test enquiry from the page to your inbox.
1. Before you begin
Use a test address you control and harmless sample information. Avoid real customer details. Identify which form tool runs the page; menu names and entry storage vary. Take a backup before changing website configuration.
2. Trace the notification
Check the configured recipient rather than assuming it matches the website administrator address. Search your inbox and spam folder for the test time or subject. If entries are stored in the website, check whether your submission appears. Do not enable unnecessary collection of sensitive information just for this test.
3. Review sender settings carefully
Follow your form tool and mail provider’s documentation. In Contact Form 7, the From address should belong to the website domain; a visitor’s address can be used in Reply-To when configured correctly. Other tools may differ. If authenticated sending is needed, ask your provider or developer to configure it securely; do not paste credentials into page content.
4. What to share with support
Provide the form URL, form tool, test time and timezone, whether an entry was recorded, and whether any notification arrived. Include the exact error with private details removed. Do not send mailbox passwords or a full customer submission.
Your quick check
Confirm submission, notification delivery and a successful reply. Test again after changing the form, mail settings or website software.
