How to check your website backups and prepare for a restore Print

Website backup checkup

A backup is most useful when you know how to use it. This week, take a few minutes to check your recovery options before your next website update.

Before you begin

Sign in to your Barqweb client area, open Services, choose the relevant hosting service and use its cPanel login option. Confirm that you are working on the correct domain. Backup availability and retention vary by service.

1. Find your backup tools

Open your hosting service’s cPanel and look for Backup, Backup Wizard, or JetBackup if shown. The tools and restore points available depend on your plan and retention settings. If you cannot find them, reply and we will help you check.

2. Check what your copy contains

Website files and the database both matter for a database-driven site such as WordPress. Record the backup date and what it includes. Keep any downloaded copy in a secure location separate from your hosting account, and avoid sharing it by public link.

3. Know your restore route

Before a major update, confirm that a suitable recovery point exists. Full cPanel account backups require hosting-provider help for an automatic restore. If you need recovery assistance, tell us the affected domain and the date you want to return to.

Your quick check

Can you answer all three? When was the last backup? What does it include? How would you restore it? If one answer is missing, now is a good time to ask.

If you need a restore

Contact support through your client area with the domain, the last time the site worked correctly, and any recent changes. Ask which restore points are available and what a restore would replace. Avoid overwriting a live site until you understand the effect on newer orders, messages and content.
